Rob Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial candidates under consideration to succeed Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend following the team's ten-game winless start to the top-flight campaign.

Furthermore both candidates - both of who have previous links to the club - are among the options to be considered by the club leadership.

The manager is currently at another club, which would create a possible hurdle to his appointment at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton manager - who made over a century of games for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a leading contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the club board as they begin the search of hiring a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise candidate, although he would be a surprising choice considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not be required to provide any compensation.
